LinkedIn Ads Access: Roles, Permissions, and Setup Guide for Advertisers [2025]

One of the most common roadblocks we see when managing LinkedIn Ads is access issues.

People assume they’re good to go… until launch day—when it turns out they’re locked out of what really matters.

So let’s clear this up once and for all.

There are two types of access we need to actually run LinkedIn Ads:

  1. Access to the ad account
  2. Access to the LinkedIn company page

Let’s walk through both.

1. Access to the LinkedIn Ads Account

This is managed from the ad account itself under Account Settings → Manage Access.

Here’s a quick rundown of the roles:

  • Viewer: Can see everything, but can’t touch anything.
  • Creative Manager: Can build ads, but can’t modify campaigns.
  • Campaign Manager: Can create and edit campaigns.
  • Account Manager: Full control—can manage users, billing, and everything else.

👉 Only one person can be the billing admin—and they must be an Account Manager.

Be careful: Changing the billing admin removes the current credit card and requires re-entering payment details right away.

If our account access is being granted through Business Manager, the process will look slightly different—but the roles remain the same.

2. Access to the Company Page

Even with full ad account access, we still need company page permissions to actually publish ads.

We manage this from the page’s Admin Settings → Manage Admins.

These are the relevant roles for advertisers:

  • Super Admin: Can do everything—edit the page, manage admins, post content, etc.
  • Content Admin: Can manage posts and comments, but not user access.
  • Paid Media Admins: This is where it gets critical for ads.

Inside Paid Media Admins, we need to assign at least:

  • Sponsored Content Poster → To create and promote content.
  • Lead Gen Forms Manager → If we’re using LinkedIn’s lead gen forms.

Ignore “Landing Page Admin” unless we’re using LinkedIn Recruiter.

Final checklist

To run ads properly, make sure we have:

✔ Access to the right ad account

Campaign Manager or higher permissions

Sponsored Content Poster access on the company page

Lead Gen Forms Manager (if needed)

✔ A designated billing admin with a working credit card

Once all of this is set, we’re ready to launch.
